About

My name is Karen Ruth Salvador and I live in Louisiana with my husband who I lovingly called Nunnie. I was born in 1981 in the City of Pasig, Philippines. I grew up in a family where everybody likes to eat and almost everybody knows how to cook. I lived from one aunt to another and that’s how I learned how to cook. And also, transferring from one place to another exposed me to different styles and ways of cooking.
I now live in Louisiana and I am also learning a lot of recipes here. I am not an expert in the kitchen. I just happen to have the passion and basic knowledge of cooking. I never worked for a restaurant either. I tried submitting applications but I always got denied. I have always wanted to be a chef, and I always wanted to work in the kitchen, even as a dishwasher, but nobody would accept me. I was just not that fortunate I guess.
The last aunt that I lived with before I came to Louisiana was a very good cook. Her kitchen may not be that big but she had everything she needed. I dreamed of having a nice kitchen of my own someday, not the fancy kitchen but the kitchen that has everything I need. Guess what? I have it now. Thanks to my loving husband.
I tried to learn from cookbooks before but I got no luck with that. I tried to understand the instructions but I guess I was just too slow because I couldn’t follow it. I need to see how it’s done before I can do it by myself. Cookbooks are not for me. So my goal right now is to be able to show people like me how to cook something easy without the confusion that you get from cookbooks. I am going to try to make it as simple as possible so that I can help you better.

ever thought about going to culinary school or taking some night classes? That’s what I am trying to do as well, I love to cook but most restaurants would like their cooks to have a little knowledge in how to cook for the masses. Nice website.
Hi DuWayne, I am actually considering going to a culinary school. But I am going to wait to have the baby first and then we’ll see from there. If my schedule and budget can accommodate it, then I will surely go. I really do love cooking and sharing what I know.
Alo Karen and “Nunnie,”
My name is James Shafer, I also live in the “great” State of Misery (eeer aka Missouri, St. Louis to be exact) my so fiancee, Miriam Guibone, is also a lovely Filipina
She will be arriving in the US in the coming months from Singapore. She is originally from the town of Bohol in Panglau*. I have been trying to learn to make some Pinoy dishes for her so she will not feel to far from home
I have some scattered about the web, but none really went into the detail that you and “Nunnie” provide! Even the cute color commentary from “Nunnie” about his $10 grill lol. Priceless
Anyways after discovering your page on Facebook and your website, I am going to be making tomorrow your Pork BBQ Pinoy Style
I showed Miriam the link and the video and she greatly approves
If you like? You can check some of my Pinoy creations I have made on my Facebook page, draukenue@yahoo.com or simply look for James K. Shafer.
Anyways thank you again for a great site!! I look forward to sharing more with you all!!
Ayo Ayo!
James
